How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program. Each year, we offer 12 PGY-1 positions through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

SEPTEMBER 2023 UPDATE: Due to the recent transition of the ACGME institutional sponsorship of Mass General Brigham programs, our residency is now listed under the new Sponsoring Institution called “Mass General Brigham”. Therefore our NRMP track name is now MGB Orthopaedic Surgery and NRMP Program Code is 2395260C0. As of now, our ERAS program name remains Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School Program, Orthopaedic Surgery.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, September 27, 2023
All application materials must be received through ERAS by this date. Only complete applications will be considered by the selection committee.

Complete applications must include:

  • Personal Statement

  • 3 Letters of Recommendation

    • Standards Letters of Recommendation (SLORs) are preferred, but narrative letters will be accepted.

    • You may submit up to 4 letters through ERAS, but the selection committee may choose to review only 3 letters.

  • Dean’s Letter/MSPE

  • Medical School Transcript

  • USMLE Step 1 Score Report

Note: USMLE Step 2 is not required at the time of application, but we do require applicants to have passed Step 2 by Match Day. Please ensure that your Step 2 score is uploaded to ERAS as soon as it is available. Massachusetts now requires physicians to pass USMLE Steps 1 and 2CK in order to obtain a limited license to practice medicine.

Our selection committee is particularly interested in your personal statement and letters of recommendation. Your personal statement and letters should tell us about your unique qualities and experiences, why you have chosen orthopaedics and your goals in becoming an orthopaedic surgeon. This is also where you should explain any interruptions in your education.

We will offer two interview dates: Tuesday, January 9, 2024 and Thursday, January 11, 2024.

If you have any questions, please send an email to HCORP@partners.org.
