Research Opportunities

With the resources of four major teaching hospitals and two world-class universities at our fingertips, there are many opportunities for research as a member of HCORP. Residents in previous years have conducted studies such as the molecular biology of osteotropism in metastatic breast cancer, guided tissue regeneration of the ACL and prospective outcomes studies on pediatric distal radius fractures. Residents have also won funding awards for research from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, and the American Orthopaedic Association.

Opportunities also are available in the industrial sector, with residents in the past performing research projects at several of the orthopaedic and biotechnology companies located in the greater Boston area, such as Smith & Nephew and Genzyme. Moreover, clinical research activities are also thriving as the emphasis on clinical outcomes and evidence-based medicine continues to increase in orthopaedics.
