HCORP Societies

HCORP is a large residency with 12 residents per year. With the goal of fostering a greater sense of community and encourage residents to develop close bonds with faculty members, the residency program has created six Societies. Each society is comprised of two residents from each class and two faculty advisors. Faculty members are hand-selected based on their mentoring abilities.

Each society hosts frequent social events for their members. Societies also provide a forum for friendly competition amongst the residents.

Social Events

In addition to society meetings, HCORP residents participate in several social events throughout the year. Below is a list of our most popular annual events.

HCORP Intern Welcome Reception: hosted at a pub near Fenway Park during the first week of the academic year. All residents are invited to meet the new interns.

HCORP Trap Shoot: In the autumn, residents are invited to a round of American Trap shooting at a local shooting club with the Attendings.

HCORP Turkey Bowl: On Thanksgiving Day, the residents play a game of football against the Attendings at Dr. Jupiter’s house.

Department Holiday Parties: Residents are invited to each of the Orthopaedic Department holiday parties hosted by BIDMC, BWH and MGH.

HCORP Ski Trip: Each winter residents are invited to an all-inclusive weekend of skiing in New Hampshire. Lodging, rental and lift tickets are provided, along with a dinner with the Attendings and their families on Saturday. Residents compete against Attendings in a slalom race on Sunday.

HCORP Golf Day: Each spring HCORP residents are excused from a Friday of clinical duties for a round of golf at a local country club. Clubs are provided.

HCORP Graduation: Hosted at a venue in downtown Boston, all residents and attendings are invited to this formal dinner to celebrate the graduating class.
