Didactics

CORE

Every resident attends CORE didactics on Wednesday (Longwood area) or Thursday (MGH) mornings from 8:00 to 9:30 AM. This time is protected for all residents.

Didactics are resident-driven and faculty-led, with a focus on CORE competencies. Residents are provided with preparatory reading prior to each CORE session. Lectures are also augmented by dry labs and cadaver labs.

Anatomy

During the summer months, Wednesday CORE didactics are replaced by our Anatomy Course. Residents perform guided dissections of six to eight whole cadavers on Tuesday night. Attendings are present to provide guidance on approaches and anatomy. On Wednesday, anatomy consists of a lecture combined with resident presentations of approaches and structures on each dissected cadaver. Each week is focused on one portion of the body. There is a written and practical exam following the Anatomy course.

Service-specific Conferences

At each hospital there are morning conferences in each field, including, Hand, Arthroplasty, Spine, Oncology, Pediatrics, Indications, Trauma, for nearly every day of the week. Given the large number of overlapping conferences, it is impossible for residents to attend all conferences. Residents will attend the conferences as dictated by the rotation they are on.

M&M Conference

All residents are required to attend and participate in M&M at each hospital.
